I am not a huge CCleaner fan. It probably doesn't do any harm but I would save your registry every time you use it.

They don't use it at my company.

CCleaner does backup the registry, If you say no to the registry backup, well it offered the chance. I've been using it forever and never a problem. My experience anyway.

All good suggetions. In boating terms, do you want to clean your carbs and do a tune up with new spark plugs or buy a new boat.....

Good analyst there redneck joe. The only problem is, I have virtually no experience dealing with computers and rebuilding them other then the general knowledge of how they work and using lots of software programs on them. I know electronics very well and have written tons of computer programs for various Micro Controllers, Micro Processors, FPGAs, PLAs, PALs and PIC Controllers and even designed many many circuits in my days. But computer knowledge just has skipped me. So without such knowledge and knowing what will and what won't work, it is a crap-shoot for me. But I am reading and trying to learn so I can do things myself without asking anybody else. I hate to bother others for such things. JMHO!

Yea GA_Boater. I do know what you are saying. But it is kind of embarrassing to know electronics so well and not know computers any better then I presently do. My youngest adult son is presently finishing up his IT degree and going for his Masters. But I also hate to keep asking him about such things as well. It is a self capability thingy. However, I do answer questions all the time to him about component electronics. Different stokes for different folks.

Sorry, GM. :embarassed: Put in the wrong name in the post.

Anyway - Is it time for some horse trading with your son? Don't forget without the circuits, that programming is just a bunch of words and symbols on paper. It takes two to tango. It's just like car mechanics can't do bodywork and vice versa.

I wish computers were as easy as body work. I can do that. And rebuild engines, transmissions and so many other mechanical things. And fix most any type electrical or electronic device. But computers? Not my cup of tea....yet!

I've always been leery of letting anything mess with the registry and I've read various "expert" opinions on line saying that registry cleanup doesn't really do much in the way of speeding up a pc and is not really worth doing.

Here's a short article from how-to geek saying pc cleaners are not worthwhile and tells how to accomplish the same thing with tolls already in Windows.
