Ok. I have absolutely no clue about any of this stuff, so please bare with me..

Pro Tools, M box, Cakewalk.. I've looked at all this stuff and the more I read, the more confused i get.. Are there any of these programs that are exceedingly simple, especially for a computer dummy like me?? :confused: I dunno where to start...

Here's what i'd like to be able to do.. Use one of these programs on my puter to record like a multi-track... Record music tracks onto my hard drive, and be able to mix and edit several tracks together.

I have windows xp, p4 processor, with a big hard drive... Thats it...

Other than instruments, what do i need to get started?

My vote would be for Sonar the people that made cakewalk. It is fairly inexpensive, works great,and is easy to use. Pro-tools is a great platform, but more geared (price and learning curve) to the professional recording studio.

Hi Snapper - I don't have much experience in any package other than Pro Tools. It can do all of what you described above and much more.

I was advised to get Pro Tools by a friend of mine who used to own one of NZ's main recording studios. He said that Pro Tools was becoming an industry standard in the recording studios around the world.

I was also advised that Pro Tools runs best on a Mac, although there is a Windows version. This was a few years ago, so things may have changed since then - possibly the PC version is fine now.

The package I have includes some hardware that comes with Pro Tools...a sort of console that you plug the microphones, instruments and amplifier in to. Pro Tools includes a swag of effects, delays, reverbs, equalisers etc. The more powerful your PC is, the more of these you can run at the same time.

Here is the website for Pro Tools, there's lots of info there;

http://www.digidesign.com

Hope this helps - good luck! :)

snapper, you should look into a program by sony called "soundforge"...if you combined what you record in "soundforge" with the mixing abilities of "acid 4.0" you can make absolutely anything you can dream of.

i cant post what i would like to here in this forum, so email me if youd like phatmanmike@Yahoo.com
