Here's a thought...

Do you know if the video card is good?
Any way to test on another machine?
Was it working before you reformatted?

Curious...what motherboard are you running?

Sorry for the Q's...Just trying to narrow things.

You might try a Google search for similar problems.
Chances are, someone else had the same issues.
I've found a lot of my issues solved using Google.

H.

Re: COMPUTERS, (HELP, LOST DISPLAY ADAPTER)

I had the same problem last year with xp on a new system. 3 edjumacated computer gurus each spent hours trying to get it to locate the modem and the vid card. They all insisted I was doing something wrong. Had all xp compatible components and the latest versions of all drivers. Nothing worked. Everything works fine with win2000 or winme. I used the winxp cd to install on a different pc, and it worked. Go figure.

I feared something like this would happen, and was ready to buy a MAC or run Linux on the pc, but I am limited to running windows with my satellite isp, because they chose to make the modem a usb device, instead of an ethernet(sp) device.

Anyone want an unused and unregistered copy of winxp?

You guys know I wouldn't offer anything for sale here, thats against the rules.

Yes, DirecWay satellite. I haven't had any real problems with it, except in real bad weather. Lose service temporarily, on occasion. And could use a break in the price. But considering the only other service available is very unreliable dial-up, with very old lines, I guess I will deal with it. And it is averaging approx 40-50 times faster than my old dial-up.
