Conan replace Jay? Why?

So aparently its gonna happen.. May 29, 2009. Conan O'brien will replace Jay Leno on the Tonight show??

Im curious what you all think of this.. I for one cannot stand Conan, that guy is the least funny host I have ever seen.. Maybe Jay just has better writers or something but for some reason simply looking at Conan makes me cringe (and abruptly change the channel). Jay seems like a real guy, collects and works on cars, writes for Popular Mechanics, seems to have a good grip on reality. Plus Jay walking and Headlines are irreplaceable. Id rather see the show end than continue with anyone else (especially Conan). Just my opinion.

I believe that Jay's contract is up at that time.

Jay sure does not need the money, and he has plenty of other interests. i agree about Conan. But i rarely ever see either show anymore.

Don't care for Conan myself but, as I recall, Jay started this himself when he thought he wanted to retire almost five years ago. He's the one who suggested the deal locking down Conan to replace him. Now it looks like he wants to change his mind [makes me think of Green Bay Packers for some reason].

Knot, I agree with your assessment of Conan. I don't care for him either. In fact, I just won't watch him. But I rarely watch Leno anymore either. Just don't stay up that late.

Wonder who does like him.

No way.

Apparently some people must think he is funny. He has hosted Late-Night for 15 years, winning an Emmy, plus it's hard to think that Jay would personally select a bombing hack, to be his successor.

Conan's appeal is to the younger, hip crowd, who, will eventually be migrating from the nightclubs, to the the bedroom idiot-box.

Late night TV shows are some the most important show on the TV networks. They usually determine where the boob-tube dial will be pointing to, tomorrow morning.

That's why Jay and David Letterman are paid quite well.

Yea, NBC is wanting to keep Jay around in a different capacity, but the word I get is that he might jump ship to another network.

The little I have seen of Conan even his appearance on Leno, I don't like him. I probably won't be watching after the switch over. But I also didn't watch Leno for a couple of years after he took over for Carson.

If they bring Andy back it would be great. I didn't care much for the Late Night show after Andy was gone.

Leno, Letterman and Conan O'Brien have become stale and scripted. Does anyone watch Craig Ferguson? His show is produced by Letterman's company "World Wide Pants", it is not scripted, he requires no Q-Cards.
Well, i think he's funny and naturally quick witted.

I totally agree about Conan but let's not forget we all went through the same thing when Leno took over for Johnny. The show would never be the same etc. I do think they will lose a lot of viewers when Conan takes over. He is apparently a very educated man, maybe too smart to be funny I don't know. I would think they would give him more time appropriate material if he moves to an earlier show.

it's the tonight show with jay leno vs the david letterman show

So dave gets a lot mor $$$ then jay does because it is his show

Jay has better ratings then dave

He has to leave because NBC is not willing to change the name of the show

I miss Johnny and Ed................but enjoy Jay.....................with Conan O'brian at the helm, I would not be as inclined to watch.

I rarely watch the stuff, but I like Conan alright. Jay's better and I especially like to look at his old cars and such. I also liked Conan better when Andy was on his show. I guess since I'm so incredibly smart that I get all Conan's jokes. Poor old Conan, no Conan fans here I guess.
I liked Conan's staring contests he had a while ago. Kind of juvenile and sometimes disgusting, but funny.
