Hi all! Fairly new here. I have an '83 14' ClackaCraft drift boat that I got in the mid '90s. ClackaCraft history my boat model is the one at the bottom. I'm now going through the process of getting it back on the water after it's been sitting for almost 10 years. I'll be needing to do some fiberglass repairs and whatnot so I thought I would post this here as a sort of greeting and introduction. I've been studying some of the threads to get an idea what I'm looking at. Great stuff (and great people) in here!

Anyway In getting all my ducks in a row I found out about this new fangled "Boater safety card" and test. And reading up on it I see that all boats manufactured after '72 should have a capacity plate somewhere in the helm area. But there is nothing of the sort on my boat anywhere. Nor does it look like there ever has been. I wonder what the story is. And will this cause me problems in the future when it comes time to sell it?

Thanks for reading this and sorry it was a bit more wordy than I intended :) .

Cheers.....................Todd

Re: Concerning capacity plates.

what does the title say the year is. before 1972, there was no requirement for the capacity plate, or hull id number. you will have to call the dept that registers boats in your state. i also suggest you contact the manufacturer,

Re: Concerning capacity plates.

Thanks TD, Yeah it's an 83 so from what I understand it should have had one. I'll check with Clackacraft and see if anyone remembers where it was originally located. They're just down the street from me. I'm starting to wonder if it was attached to the original wood on the transom which had already been replaced once when I got it. I'll also check with the Oregon marine board and see what's required. Thanks again!

Re: Concerning capacity plates.

I hope you have better luck than I did. I have a 1985 Pro-Line. My capacities plate is so faded and corroded that it's completely unreadable.

I contacted Pro-Line, which, btw, happens to have very good customer support. They've helped me before with other information and advice. I was told that the capacity plates are authorized by the NMMA. Every year, the manufacturer returns any unused plates to the NMMA.

I contacted the NMMA. A very nice gentleman called me back. When I explained my problem he told me that they only keep old records around for about 10 years. He offered to put me in touch with some aftermarket plate manufacturers, but that will only work if you already know all of the information that appeared on the original plate.

Anyway, good luck- and please post back if you manage to crack the code on this subject :)
