Hello from Korea,

I haven't posted in a while but I have a question concerning my 88 SPL V-4 model# E88MSLCER Evinrude outboard spark plugs. I remember the last time I ran myboat that after I wa done for the day I pulled the spark plugs and on the right side bank as looking from the back of the motor or boat that the park plugs looked like a light brown to greyish color on the center porcelain part below the electrode that is bent over and the left side bank was a dark brown to almost black color on the center porcelain below the electrode. Is that normal and if not what could cause it to do that. Seemed the baot ran o.k. but was just curoius. Thanks again, Bob

light brown is good. black is carbon build up. i'd do a decarb with seafoam, if you can get it. look in the engine faq forum.

Tashasdaddy,

Thanks for replying. That was what I was thinking decarbing with Seafoam too but wanted to make sure that is probably why it runs a little rough at idle and good at full throttle. You have the same motor don't you. How fast does yours run and what kind of boat do you have it on? I am just comparing mine with others to see what mine is doing good or bad. I will do that when I get home in September, boy I hope I can get out camping and boating at least once while I am at home before I come back to Korea to finish up my tour. Thanks again for the info on my motor. Bob:)
