Hello,

I have a 2001 Volvo Penta SX drive and I need to replace the cone clutch. Is this something I can do myself with the proper tools? I read about shims and how it needs to be perfect. How difficult is it?

Thank you

Why do you need to replace the cone clutch?
When they slip usually they can be either lapped together with grinding compound or glass bead blasted to remove the glaze.
Are you using the correct oil in the gear case?

Now I do remember a mechanic last fall talking about lapping it. Everything still needs to come apart correct? or am I able to get in there by removing the cover with the shift linkage on it?
I'm using Volvo Penta 75W90 synthetic gear oil.
