Hey Everyone.

So just getting things ready to get the engine all cleaned up, adjusted, dressed, etc. this fall/winter. Was looking at my fuel pump and I can't figure out why the line is run from one side of the pump to the other. Makes no sense to me. Other than I know whoever had it before me must of done this. Yes I will be changing all the lines as the previous owner had no idea what to use (oil line???)

Any suggestions? Thanks all! Motor info is in my Signature.

I don't see any reason for it to be that way and was added by PO. I would remove it

Also the fuel line being used is automotive type and needs to be USCG Type A1

Thanks Dodge. What I figured. I will be replacing the lines with proper ones for sure. So these older style motors don’t have a safety bipass if pump fails?

I'm sure one port is for the membrane failure to flood the carb. Did you look at the manual?

For safety sake correct the po mistake . mechanical pumps have 1 inlet, 1 outlet and 1 telltale going to the carb body

And a filter inside, which probably needs cleaning.

Crossed over with plumbing like that the pump moved a zillion gallons of fuel round and round..

Ayuh,.... Isn't that how you "Polish fuel",..?? 'round, 'n 'round through filters,.....

My "Kit" uses much larger filters,..... ;)

That infinite loop of fuel probably does not work well for feeding the carb.... What are the chances someone jammed an electric fuel pump somewhere and designed that fustercluck to bypass the fuel pump without making a block off?

I didn’t see any traces of an electric pump. It did run pretty good as it is now but I will be changing it for sure to the right way with the proper lines as well. I wondered as well if it was starving the carb. Dunno. Some people will try anything the easy way first.
