OK, I thought that only outboards used stators for their electrical requirements. Just recently I came across 2 people who have told me that they had spent quite a bit of money converting their stator over to an alternator on their i/o engines (Mercruisers). Both of these boats are for sale, both were mid 80's models. Could someone clear this up for me. Thank You

Re: Confused about stators

Yea those are junk, and honestly I see alot of boats and biggerish ones with crappy little 4 bangers in them, absolutely retarded.
When I see a nice or decent boat listed for cheap I instantly think, 4 banger/470/omc.

I put the 4 banger boats especially the 470 and its variants into the OMC do not consider list of boats. I was kinda drooling over a EFI Ford 5.8 OMC Cobra the other day, looked sweet. Save for that outdrive.

OK, then the only i/o's that came with stators on them were the Merc 470, 4 cylinders. If that is the case then it explains why when I asked the guy about the engine size on his 86 Barreta that he pretended like he did'nt know.
