Re: Congresswoman in critical condition after being shot

First a Moderator comment.... let's be careful on this touchy subject. I want to keep this open.

Now my opinion....... Lipp I disagree. That was an act of a sick individual and I believe he would have used any excuse. I have read the news articles and looked at the you tube and I am just of the opinion that his trigger could have been anything.

I just wish that someone else who was armed would have stepped forward and engaged him.

I am of the opinion, this had nothing to do with party affiliation, it was simply a nutcase hellbent on destruction and gaining his 15 minutes of fame...my prayers are with all of the victims of this senseless act, and being a carry person, I also wish, there would have been someone there that stepped forward and stopped this individual...

No politics... The jerk was a nut case, end of story. I'd take that sheriff to task and demote the jerk for his comments. Those 6 that were murdered and the families left behind need to see justice served. That 9 yr old girl was tough to see the interview with the mom. She was there to learn about politics, she was smart and well educated. Now her life is gone. I hope they burn this jerk in the chair.

No problem Bob and you could be very well correct, I felt that in this issue the party affiliation was merely a motivating factor for the coward who carried out the attack, when I say victim friendly zones they are better known as Gun free zones, I would agree that I don't want guns in schools and other places but when criminals exploit the laws we have to react properly to the threat, My theory is that the shooter/Coward knew that since the Victims were at a liberal party gathering he could rest assured they would also be unarmed. As I said I don't condone this as I feel it is a sick cowardly attack on unarmed persons in a peaceful part of my home town. I am a staunch supporter of 2nd amendment rights but what happened I am just sick about NONE of those people deserved what happened to them, that poor child.... I have no words.

Doug, what did the Sheriff say/do that fired you up, I have been in and out of TV range yesterday and today, did I miss something?

The Sheriff more or less said politicians say violent things they shouldn't say and this is collateral damage from it. I could list example after example of things he is referring to but I will respect the no politics rule. It's gotten out of hand and anyone who has been paying attention knows where it is coming from whether they want to admit it or not.

I think I found what you guys are talking about thanks to youtube and a few other resources, Luckily this man is an elected official and those he is employed to protect can voice their opinion clearly about his statements.

This was a tragedy of the highest magnitude, but what the sheriff said was way out of line and I do hope the people he works for, remember that..

Re: Congresswoman in critical condition after being shot

My sincere condolences to all the victims of this cowards senseless, violent act. Accolades to all those who selflessly put their own lives in danger by subduing the lunatic or helping the injured.
Some earlier forum comments concern me. I've been permitted to cary for about 30 years and firmly believe in our 2nd amendment rights, but the the thought of citizens who are more than likely untrained yet very well armed, in a crowded, violent situation is scary. You can imagine the scenario where people are scrambling and screaming and others have their guns drawn but don't really know who the real perpetrator is. In Hollywood it might end perfectly but ...

I completely agree with you obezag, its only a matter of time before someone like us(who carries) gets taken out by "friendly fire"! I think the thing that angers me the most in the aftermath of this incident is the typical media BS about the type of gun and the amount of bullets, I heard today on the radio that this guy had a glock capable of carrying 30 rounds, this kind of misinformation is disturbing. I would like to get information that is accurate, I don't know why this is so difficult, but what I find is I watch the news and then determine what I believe is the most probable situation that happened. I also expect the typical influx of those applying for their concealed carry permits around the nation but I don't see any reason why thats a bad thing other then I hope everyone who carries, TRAINS to carry and shoot, effectively and accurately.

I am surprised this coward in Arizona was not shot by a civilian who carries maybe surprised isn't the word, amazed would be more accurate, I spent half my 43 years in Arizona, walking into the supermarket or Hugh M. Woods and seeing 5 or so people open carrying wasn't unusual at all.

Times change I guess

Im a produce manager at Safeway in AZ. This is scary stuff. I have seen a few people in the store carrying a gun and I watch them like a hawk. You never know what someone is going to do. I also believe in carrying a gun if you want but with power comes great responsability.
I have seen some crazy people and been thru some crazy situations in the stores but nothing like this.
I think they need to turn this nut over to that little girls parents and let them do what they what.

Actually, one was ready to, but was observant enough to notice that the shooter's slide was open, and decided to knee him in the neck instead.

The one who disarmed the shooter was almost shot by another before he dropped the gun. Bystanders yelled in his behalf to stop the shot.

You can spend hours reading different versions of the 6 seconds of action.
