Connecting a 1795 merc to quicksilver 3000 controls

Hello, My boat came with a 1996 mercury 9.9, i have a 1974 merc 500 50hp that i am putting on the boat. the harness from my controller (quicksilver 3000) is the 8 pin male end. Is there an adapter to hook up the older engine? or whats the best way to go about this?
