Connecting rod bearings

I'm rebuilding a 1978 Evinrude 115 - slowly - when I removed the coonnecting rod retaining screws and cover all the little pins fell out of the connecting rod bearings. Did it on all cylinders so is this normal or do I need new bearings for all 4? The pins and casings all look to be in good shape.

Yep, they are like that in that vintage of motor. If I go to the trouble of overhauling a motor I replace all the bearings. It really doesn't add that much to the cost.

In your case, before replacing those bearings if that's the route you intend to go, make absolutely sure that you retrieve ALL of those needles which I believe (if memory serves me correctly) are eighteen (18) to a connecting rod.<br /><br />Assuming that one rolled under the bench somewhere and is of no consequence, only to find out later when the engine is running that it had temporarily jammed in a hidden area of the block can be, to say the least.... quite fusterating.

Cap, if you don't have an OEM shop manual, you need one.
