Wow, he really tried to pull one over on you... you have to be an educated consumer... on everything. I'm glad that my dad taught me to work on all of my own stuff. Now even if I choose to let someone else work on it, at least I have a clue what's wrong before they start.

Regarding your problem... sounds like a loose connection somewhere. I was having similar problems earlier this season. First time on the water in the spring - it wouldn't run smooth above 3500 rpm. Only thing changed for winterizing was fuel filter. I put another on and ran great... for a few weeks. Then intermittent cutout... Thought it was fuel starvation. Changed fuel pump. Still there! Found a broken wire at the kill switch!

The wire had most of the wire strands broken reducing the current that could carry. So reduced voltage to fuel pump... caused all of the problems.

Follow the troubleshooting advice above and find the root cause!

Don't bother with a website to bash this guy...waste of time...you got information that tells you your engine is OK...

I found out it was ok because I was smart engough to know that he was trying to pull a fast one on me and I myself ran the compression on it. He didnt do anything but try to scam me.

He was gonna scam me for thousands. I bet he was gonna say hed have it rebuilt in a week or two then not do anything then hand me a 4-5 K bill.

Buiding a website is one of the least things I could do. I could take a 5 gallon bucket of oil based paint down there and start slinging it around but I wont.

I took the boat out yes and it ran great for about 4 hours. Then after I went through a really long no wake zone that takes about 15 -20 mins to get throguh when I started going back up to speed it started running like crap again.

I drove it all the way back to the dock whcih is about 3 miles and it ran like crap the whole way. Not wanting to get the right RPM backfiring, and shuttering or shaking.

I get back to the dock and check the fuel water sep filter and its 80% water and 20% fuel. I thought WTF I have changed it twice in the past couple months just cause there was a little crud in there but I have never saw 1 drop of water in it.

The boat is at a little less than 1/4 tank right now (and when I found the water in the filer) but I have never got it this low. So I dunno if thats why or if the guy put water in the tank. Im going to drain it all today.

Ding ding ding! Backfiring, running like crap.....You need to drain your tank and put fresh fuel in

if the water made it to the carb you will get the same symptoms and the only cure is manually removing the water from the carb.
the water seperator will only hold so much then passes the rest.
more so with E fuels cause the ethanol is saturated and the water falls out in the fuel bowl.
if you convert to the delco EST system there is no need for an ESA.
a simple wire change in the amphenol conector eliminates it and wires the shift cut switch like a merc that used EST.
if you have a DVA meter a simple test from the coil primary + post to the engine block will tell you if its ign break down or not.

Have you checked the fuel pressure? A lean condition can cause your engine to pop and backfire...
