the wires on the two plug connection going to my tilt and trim unit on the back of the motor are disconnected. Since the part is obsolete is it ok to just use knife or plug in connectors in lieu of same? Also, can I use a momentary toggle switch instead of the t/t switch on the control handle? this is an 85 90 hp evinrude.

Well simpldave, it is your boat and if you want to use any type connector, why not. If the connector is a quality type and serves the purpose, have at it. Just make sure you use good lead dressing and safety issues and it will work just fine. As for the toggle switch. That really depends. If the initial switch is driving a relay setup, then most any type switch will suffice. However, if the initial switch is carrying the entire current load for the tilt and trim pump, then you have to use another switch that can carry the current. So it depends on what the switch has to switch in the current issue... JMHO!

thanks, I wasn't sure if the two wire connectors served a purpose other than wire protection.
