Re: cons and pros of stainless steel prop

Generally a new ss prop costs 2 to 3 times an al prop. They are more efficient and can be from slightly faster to much faster. They generally improve overall performance but don't expect 10 mph even on a fast setup.
ss is stronger on soft contacts mud, sand and such but if damaged are more expensive to repair. There are some al props that do deliver close to ss performance. The turning point Hustler and Rascal are 2.
al props are less expensive, cheaper and easier to repair but are easily damaged.

Don't bother on a 50 unless you gotta have "the look". It won't make enough difference to be worth it. JMHO.

If you hit a rock with your prop, an aluminum prop is much less likely to cause a bent prop shaft. With the harder/stronger S.S. prop you likely will do damage to the lower unit. (I.E. aluminum prop is the weakest link and will break first)

Why do they call it stainless if you have to polish it?

If you hit a branch with your prop, an aluminum prop is much more likely to cause a bent prop. With the harder/stronger S.S. prop you likely will do no damage to the prop or lower unit. (I.E. aluminum prop is the weakest link and will bend when S.S. might be unaffected)
I'm a fan of SS but if you runin an area where you are likely to bump gravel regularly it would be more expensive to have SS. I agree with ufm82 that the difference would not be worth changing to unless you are looking to get a new prop anyway.

Re: cons and pros of stainless steel prop

With 50 hp, ss wouldn't be on my radar. I have a Turning Point Hustler on my Chaparral. Even a little sand really roughs up the edges compared to my other alum prop. In the instances I chipped up the edges, I wished I had an SS because I wouldn't have damaged any internals. Only because someone mentioned the TP, the only benefit I found on the Hustler is you can trim way up and it still grips but other props don't require that much trim for the similar performance.

Stainless refers to its ability to resist corrosion. As with anyting left in water for extended times
it will take on certain contaminates.Exteniating conditions could require more frequent polishing/cleaning.
There was an experiment reported here polishing al props and it did result in a very slight short lived improvement in performance.
