We are considering the purchase of our first boat. We have found a 1990 Doral Corsair. it looks in good shape and has a rebuilt Volvo engine with 10 hours on it. I have to admit I know a little about boating (Dad had a 40 foot wooden cabin cruizer when I was a kid) but am a little nervous in buying our first boat.

When going to look at this boat tomorrow. What should I look for? any GET OFF THE BOAT warning signs?

thanks!

Re: Considering 1990 Doral Corsair cruiser

If it looks ratty rather than worn, if there is oil residue throughout the engine bay and baked on oil on the engines and corrosion everywhere keep walking, otherwise have a good close look and if you like it and it will suit your purpose get a survey done by a qualified and respected surveyor, he/she will undoubtedly find a list of things that need attention now or soon. If the list is reasonable considering the age etc. of the vessel, it has been loved rather than had a quick tart up for sale you can start checking the price of the required repairs. Then you will know the true state of the boat, the potential cost of bringing it back to a condition that you would be happy with and have a good basis for negotiation. Happy hunting:D
