Considering a 1961 funliner

I'm considering moving up in boat size. I currently have a 1960 13.3 Boston Whaler Sport. I've found a 1961 17ft Funliner here locally for $400 with trailer. It is missing the windshield, and the 60 horse Chrysler engine runs good, but stalls when it is put into gear. I'm not worried about the engine as I am a part-time outboard mechanic, but I'm wondering if it is a good deal. It will be used mainly as a fishing platform, and pulling a tube around. I love my whaler but it is just too small when you get 2 or 3 guys in there with all of their gear and whatnot.

Suggestions? Here's some pics the seller has sent me. He bought it to replace his 15 footer that his wife said was too small, but she wanted a tri-hull so thats what they ultimately ended up getting.

looks like that could be a respectable fishing rig. being stripped out could be a plus for fishing.

i've seen quite a few aristocrafts that are used for fishing. mostly nineteens though. don't see why a funliner couldn't be used too though. guess my only concern would be the vhull. my nineteen lists according to where the weight is placed at in the boat. don't know if that's true for a funliner or not. my guess would be yes since it's a vhull though.

another plus for the funliner is it's all fiberglass construction. not much wood to rot in them.

to bad that particular funliner don't have the windshield or hardtop. but for your particular application. this may be beneficial as they would be obstacles to have to fish around. from the pics. the hull and deck look to be in pretty good shape too.
