Re: Considering buying a Southwind 201 L hybrid pontoon
"Hybrid?"....those guys are goobers. They are deck boats. Looks like their marketing folks have run amuck.
Anyway, there are many different styles of deck boats. Some look EXACTLY like a pontoon boat save for the fiberglass hull, and some look more like open bow boats.
Basically, if you want a boat to handle like a boat, but have the space of a pontoon, then deck a deck boat. I see only these cons of this set-up:
1 - You have a bilge to worry about.....not a huge deal, but it is not an issue with logs.
2 - You need to have enough power witha deck boat. Pontoons are perfectly content cruising slow.....or going fast. No point in having a hull if you are not willing to have power as with a deck boat. In other words, you can hang a 40 hp on a pontoon and be happy. Pontoons sit still very well and are very smooth going slow.
