I'm considering buying a 9.6 hp Seaking, not sure of year etc. The motor runs in a barrel. Are parts available for these motors? Whats the fuel/oil ratio? I suspect the motor is mid 70's model. Won't know till I get model number.
Anything I should look for before I purchase?

maybe a compression test(if you don't have one borrow one from an automotive shop), I bought my first boat blindly....but I was very lucky that when I finally did a compression test(from people telling me on this forum) all was great...I could of paid 4000 bucks for a junk motor....looked great started good but the real test is on the lake...Good luck and Happy fishing

Unless you are getting it for very cheap I would steer clear. They are good motors that run nice parts are available for it. But you cant just run to most marinas for parts. I would look for a 77 or newer 9.9 evinrude if possible

Most places don't carry parts for any small outboards???
My local Johnson//Evinrude dealer has few parts for any small motors.

If it has spark and good compression and the price is right?? Buy.

Check the gear case for water.

There are a lot of these still running.

50:1 is the oil mixture. I would change the impeller right away. They are a nice running motor. Most of the common wear parts are readily available online, just not likely to find them locally .
