Continuous Beep - Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Hello. A couple years ago I purchased a 1987 Sylvan Pro-Fisherman with a 60 HP oil injected mariner outboard and a quicksilver throttle. The guy we bought from had some issues with the oil injection system so he removed the oil pump. We got out on the water for the first time and I decided to slowly increase the throttle to full throttle. At about half throttle, the throttle box started making a continuous high pitch beep. A Continuous beep like Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. The beep didn't stop until we slowed to a bit above idle speed but still in gear. I did the same thing over and over again a few times and the beep still occured at half throttle until a bit above idle speed but still in gear. We took it out of the water and took it to a mechanic. He said it was the water pump, so he replaced the waterpump. We took the boat out again and the beep still occured. Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently remodeling the boat and I was wondering how I could disconnect the alarm system so that if the boat overheats or becomes low on oil, the quicksilver throttle box will not sound anykind of alarm. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I combined your two threads.

I don't think you want to disable the alarm or the motor just may be reduced to junk if it overheats.

Has it been doing this for 2 years?

I don't have a 60 nor ever had one but I have it's big brothers the 90 and 115, 3 and 4 cyl. 2 strokers. Standing at the rear of the engine and looking at the back of the engine block...where the spark plugs are located, at the upper left corner of that "water jacket cover plate" is a scab on bulge cover held on with 2 or 3 screws. Looking at the bulge one end is in circular fashion of some diameter and the other end identical but larger diameter.

Underneath that cover is the theremostat for the smaller circle and the high RPM "pop-off" valve for the larger. At engine speeds below around 2500 RPM the thermostat controls flow through the engine to some pre-designed max temperature....120 to 143 are a couple of numbers I have seen.

Once above that speed, water pressure unseats the pop-off and allows unrestricted flow through the engine.

So, depending at what speed you have the solid "over temperature" alarm, you can determine which is stuck shut....seems like your pop-off isn't unseating as designed.

ok thanks for the info Texasmark, I will test that. And GA_Boater, it has been doing this for 2 years but I need to find the plug for the alarm system because I am rerouting the wiring and in order to reroute the wiring I need to unplug all of the wires going to the motor. Thank You

What year is the motor? If its a 87 also it has none of the things mentioned by Tex as it has no t-stat. If it has Autoblend unit toss it

Thanks for the feedback Faztbullet, I beleive the motor is most likely a 87 because all the fittings and mounts look original. The previous owner has already tossed the oil pump for the oil injection. I was thinking about it and was thinking that the removed oil pump could be setting off an alarm

Yeah, Faz, I totally missed the 1987 year model...another brain fart. I had a 1988 115 tower and would have known better.
