Re: Control Cable Question

I think when I was using that same control box mine was the same way. That's about where it started to move (second pic). At WOT it may have even went down further than your #3 line.

If it is allowing your motor to open up all the way, I don't see the problem. Other than a little extra travel time between forward and reverse.

I lied about the straight ahead and back. Pics are of the positions where cable starts to move, it this normal? WOT is where #3 is.

I have same control, my throttle cable also starts to move in those exact same positions. "Fully in gear" is a little less movement, say if the lever was just obscuring the screw head on the box in either direction. Second pickup hits at almost 90 degrees, fully WOT my lever is more than 90 degrees...in forward anyway, never had occasion to WOT in reverse

Re: Control Cable Question

Thanks for the replies, sounds like the characteristics of the control then. I was at the dock, put in in reverse, got out a bit and put it in forward. Then i pushed forward a bit with no increase in rpms so i idled back to the dock and left. I'm a little embarrased but relieved!

Re: Control Cable Question

But if there is no movement in the throttle plate between line 2 and 3 isn't something wrong? I would think the throttle plate should gradually open more and more as the shift arm is moves farther down. Maybe not. I'm not sure. But i do know that the throttle plate only begins to open at line 3. It is not at WOT at that line

Re: Control Cable Question

I think we are all getting a little confused. mac we need some more clarification..

First you say this
2nd line is the position of the shifter arm when the motor engages in forward gear. the 3rd line running through the bottom left corner of the rectangle is the position of the arm when the throttle plate first begins to open."

Then you say this
I lied about the straight ahead and back. Pics are of the positions where cable starts to move, it this normal? WOT is where #3 is.

Are you asking us if WOT should be where your line 3 is; or telling us thats where yours is?
If WOT...hauling a&$ is where #3 line is your ok!!

If you put it in the water again don't
pushed forward a bit with no increase in rpms so i idled back to the dock and left
Push the handle all the way down and see what it does. It sounds like you are thinking it should start going fast where your original line 2 is.

Re: Control Cable Question

And yes if there is no movement between line 2 and 3 then there is something wrong. Have you just tried changing the cable? They may have froze then broke and are barely hanging by a thread.
