Twin Yamaha 200ETXD's on 26' cuddy. How difficult is it to replace the control cables? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Control cable replacement

The most difficult part of the job is snaking the cables from the controls to the engines. I'd suggest you remove three of the four cables. Secure the new cables to the end of the old one and pull all four through the cable way. Other than getting the length right, there is no complexity. Adjusting them is simple as well. Make sure the control is neutral, the linkage on the engine is neutral and then bring the shifter cable end up to the linkage. If they don't line up exactly, turn the trunion until they do. Repeat for the throttle cable making sure the throttle linkage is against the idle stop.

Re: Control cable replacement

Thanks for the reply. I would have just pulled all the old cables out to measure them before reading your post.

I'm still a little hesitant on doing the final connections, having never done a project like this before. Is there any margin for error with regards to the cable attachment? I don't want to set the cable too loose/tight and break something or not be able to shift when the seas start to build.

Thanks again.

It's not rocket science. It either lines up perfectly or it doesn't. If it doesn't adjust it so it does. Attach it and go boating. You obviously need to disconnect the old cables at the controls and that may be a little bit of a problem if you have five thumbs on each hand. Again, if you are not comfortable doing this, you will not need to take out a second mortgage to pay a shop to do it.
