for some reason i cannot find any information on a product im sure was used extensively in the marine world.

it is/was a fabric hose wrap that is black and self adhesive to itself. i thought it was called hydraulic hose wrap, but i cannot find any info on it anywhere.

i hope someone remembers what i am talking about.

it was about 2-4 inches wide, black and was made of fabric with some sort of coating on it that was waterproof(?) but it would stick to itself.

What does everyone use to wrap your control cables to keep them together and looks nice?

Wow, I'm finally able to help someone!
Your looking for Quickwrap silicone tape. I've also seen it called MagicWrap.
In Canada it's available at Princess Auto. Quick Cable makes it, p/n 507110.
Flexible to -51, won't melt until 260C, seals to 100 psi. Neat stuff, I use it to wrap ends of battery cables.
Best Regards

Can't help you on the adhesive type wrap but there is a nylon(?) fabric sleeving that we use to bundle hydraulic hoses together with. Its black, extremely durable, and available in a number of diameters. We buy it 100ft at a time but I'm sure most good hydraulic supply houses would sell you what you need.

they call it spiral wrap, no adhesive but the spiral holds it all together.

close but no cigar...

the stuff im looking for is made of fabric, with something like a wax or something coating that allows it to stick to itself. it was a very tight knit cloth tape, black and ever so slightly sticky.

i was positive that this stuff was used to wrap hydroulic hoses together. im not crazy, i have talked to others who remember the stuff, but they say they havent seen it in years.

dont like this stuff and i just cant see it looking good in the boat.

in my boat the cables are exposed running from the side console back to the motor. Well i guess that since i am redoing the carpet again, i might as well find a way to hide the cables.

thanks for your help guys.

but if anyone remembers what i am talking about speak up.....

if it was used for hydraulic hoses, maybe try a Caterpillar or John Deere dealer...they have the most hydraulic hoses on their equipment that i can think of...they might have it or at least know where you can get it from.
