Control to heavy !??

hi control to foward and backword is to heavy and hard to get in neutral . i open the control and relese the cables and is not heavy at all. what shud i do ? replace the cables ? and any one know how log is the cables in my vip 2001 vission with a 4.3 v6 mercruiser Thanks

sharp bends make controls harder. or cable could be shot.
