Hi Folks, I have a 1972 Johnson 50 (50ES72C) electric shift. Last night it started to shock me when I tried to start it or shut it off using the key. It also refused to shut off when I turned the key to the off position. It is the original white controller that came with the 1972 models (no push buttons for forward or reverse, those functions are integrated into the shifter lever). Any suggestions as to the cause/how to repair it? TIA

There is an issue with the kill circuit for the powerpack.---Ignition switch could be faulty.------Find the bare ( shorted ) wire somewhere in the control or wiring harness.----Black wire with yellow stripe is the culprit likely.

You say it has the original control. Does it??? Does it have a YELLOW plug at the engine end?
