Hello:

I live in southeast Louisiana and was wiped out by last years hurricane. I own a Spartan bay boat, with a Johnson 110 hp outboard. I've had it for years. The engine is about 10 - 15 years old. Runs great, but I've noticed the throttle getting a little stiff. All the owners manuals were washed away. Even the serial number peeled off. Is there any way to adjust the tension on this thing ? I vaguely remember the switch below the startup key has something to do with it. I just don't want to mess up a good thing.

Anyone know where else on the engine I might find the serial number ? I know they have hidden number on cars, but I'm not familiar with outboards. The dealership where I purchased the engine is no longer in business. (Katrina washed him away too.). If I can find the serial number maybe I can write off for an owners manual.

Re: Controls

welcome to i boats. yes there is a knob that controls the tension, some are on the forward side, some on top, some under the key. it's probably time for replacement of the cables. you need the model number not serial number, can be found here

aftermarket manuals and cables can be had at the iboats store.

Great ! My control is exactly as your photo shows. I assume I can just turn the knob clockwise to tighten, counter-clockwise to loosen - Right ? I've seen that little round silver thing too. Going outside to check it right now. If I ever get that serial number I'm going to write it with magic marker inside the cowl lid.

Thanks a lot for the info.
