Can a 15hp be converted to a higher horsepower? If so, how high and what needs to be done? Thanks.

What model? Some 4-strokes can be converted from 15 to 20.

If it's a 2 strokes nope, it's already at the highest level, next 18 is another story.
If it's a 4 strokes, yes, carb change.

If it is a 4-stroke A or B it cannot be altered. If it is a -stroke C you can.

I'd like to know more about 18hp 2-stroke increases. I have an 18E but thought there wasn't any built-in upgrade path. I thought the next size up was allso a bore/stroke change.

Re: Conversion of Tohatsu 15

Hi, I own a 2010 Nissan 15 Hp 4 strock outboard. Before I made a decision of what motor to buy-15 HP or 20HP I called Producer"s representative and asked if there is a essential difference between them. The answer was-No,Not really.I Doubt very much that changing the only carb, one can increase motor's power up to 30%.

Natan,

If you have an NSF15C, you can install the carb for the NSF20C, and you will get the extra 5 hp.

Is that because you know so much or because you know so little? :) Actually your looking at this from the wrong perspective. The carb change is restoring the engine to its designed hp. I would agree with you that if an engine was at its true hp making a carb change would not give you a 30% increase.
