I know there have been several posts on this topic before, but I have not found the information that I need. I just purchased (still in the box) a new manual 25 HP 2 stroke Mercury Sea Power (It's really a Nissan/Tohatsu made for Mercury) to replace an older Evinrude 25 HP.
0) Yes, I need a manual, but what I want to do is pretty straightforward that a manual should not be necessary.
1) I don't care about Electric start, I'll pull it.
2) I realize that I may have to get a new steering control/ drag link, but
3) Can I use the OMC shift and throttle controls on the Nissan?
I know the dealer sells conversion kits (src?), but I haven't found out exactly what is in the kits and given the high price, I'm guessing that it includes cabling for remote start and a control box (which I don't want). If anyone can point me to the kit contents, that would be great. So,
1) Will the OMC control box work by replacing OMC ends to connect the shift and throttle cables to the engine with Nissan ones? or
2) Do I need to buy a teleflex or Uflex simple control box and type 3300 universal cables and the connector ends for the engine?
3) Is there an aftermarket vendor for the cable connectors at the engine (I see Merc, OMC, etc., but not Nissan) or is this strictly a dealer item?
Thanks.
