I have a 1957 Johnson 35 HP with controls that I want to convert to a tiller model. Is this possible? Can anyone give me some guidance? Thank you!

fisher dad - Welcome to iboats.

Really nice motor you have. I have a 10 and 18hp Evinrude from '57, also have a '57 10hp Johnson.

We love pictures and it helps the people around here help you.

We might need a little more info to help, but yes it can be converted. You would need to get a tiller handle and install it.

Do you have electric choke and start? If you do, you may want to keep it. You could hook up a battery and cables near the transom and add some switches and/or buttons to still have them operate.

You can do that, and not too hard either. I went the other way with the same motor a few years ago...removed the tiller arm and added the throttle assembly for remote controls...took about 30 minutes to do the swap. Post a free wanted ad on the classifieds/webvertize ads at www.aomci.org

Would you like to sell the control box? John
