convert i/o to outboard

I was going to look into converting an old I/O with spent motor to an outboard via a mounting bracket. Is this something I could do or is this something that requires pixie dust, which i'm fresh out of. Ive looked into brackets and they say bolt on and go, but surely there is a weight difference in an outboard and an I/O that must be compensated for. It seems to me that the I/O would be much heavier causing it to be front heavy once converted. Also how would the mounting height be determined as if mounted too low your motor could get a saltwater bath and too high the prop would come out of the water?WOW

We call it a gill bracket down here. Proline boats, down the street from me, makes several models that the hulls are exactly the same. They just cut a hole for IO or add a bracket. Which ever you want. Makes mfg. easier. The weight difference would simply be compensated for by the trim system you put on it and hp of the engine. Trick is the transom. Is it strong enough to carry the load if it is in good shape to begin with. The bracket Mfg. can give you guide lines on this.

Oh! You mount the engine high enough on the transom to where the cavition plate would be level with the botom of the boat.
