1986 175hp 2-stroke yami engine.

its my neighbors. we've pretty much done everything to this engine thats honestly possible.

now, he's down to just having problems with the foot. the big outer ring nut thread portion is pretty much eaten to nothing and it no longer grips right so he keeps getting water in the oil in the foot (and it has hairline cracks he refuses to acknowledge...). also, its making a whining noise even after being reshimmed/setup.

he's realizing he just needs a newer foot.

I'm thinking he should just convert to regular rotation as I'm pretty sure its just the gears in the foot being reversed are what does the functional part. if he buys a rebuilt regular rotation foot he should be good right?

swap that on and bam, regular rotation?

You will find that a right hand rotation lower unit will work fine. You will need a right handed prop as stated above as well.

counter rotation lower units ,as well as the parts are hard to find used.I suggest he look to sell his old parts, that may help defray the cost of another standard rotation lower unit.Be sure when searching for the standard (that will work as mentioned ,with a standard prop)he gets the proper shaft size, they come different lengths
