Does anyone feel like giving me the nitty gritty on a quick conversion from a pull start to electric start for a 2002 Mercury 40 HP 2-stroke? I can find serial # if that would help. Any tips for saving money?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Convert to electric start

You need the starter, solenoid and the wiring harness that includes the ignition switch. Is this a tiller or remote steer setup. Check your PM's

This is a tiller handle. Can I find these parts at a outboard junk yard or do I have to buy new? How do I determine what parts I need if new?

I'm trying to do the same thing with a 2002 15 HP 4-stroke. Can anybody point me to a good place for parts??

Dollar wise, it's not worth it. Your better off to sell it and get a different motor. The exception would be if you could find a motor with a blown power head or bottom end on craigslist or kijiji for cheap, to salvage the needed components.
