Converting 1957 7.5 hp longshaft AD-11 L?) to short shaft

I have a 54 Evinrude 7.5hp Fleetwin parts motor. Any chance I can use the shift and drive shafts from the '54 Evinrude in the '57 7.5 Johnson to make the Johnson a short shaft motor?

Shift rod yes, drive shaft no. 376093 drive shaft fits 1954-55. 376787 drive shaft fits 1956-58. Both numbers are for short shafts.
