I have a 14" boat with a console and side mount controls for my 93 25hp Johnson outboard. I'm thinking of scrapping the console and converting it to tiller ctl to get more room on the boat.
With the side console, the ignition switch normally grounds out the signal till the key is turned, then turnjing it activates the starter. There's also a push function to prime the solenoid. There's a switch inside so that the motor can't start with the throttle in gear. The idle speed lever and throttle lever are mechanicly connected.
I have no idea what controls are on a tiller. I found a Johnson tiller manual and saw there's a start button and a stop button. I'm assuming that the stop button gorunds out the circuit.
What else is different between the two systems and are there ways to do the conversion withoug paying for the high priced conversion kit?
