Wondering if anyone has tried to convert an 1150 direct charge block into a 140/150 cross flow designed block..? The 140 and 150 cross flow has a 1" angled fly cut in the cylinder wall...seems a good machinist could easily cut this port into the cylinder wall...i know, i come up with some crazy stuff...but i gotta ask..!

Yes...years ago when they were not so plentyful, and if you dont have the power ported piston it dont help anything. In the early 80's I would told you you was full of crap if you could buy a used inline for $150!!!! I have enlarged them(teardrop cut),narrowed them(3/4" strip),tripled them(3 1/2" strip cuts)squared ports, ovaled ports, played with transfer covers, raised/lower intake and exhaust ports all to get that elusive xtra HP. Some designs worked ok but you had to sacrifice somewhere else for it to work. Most of these mod's was for hulls under 400lbs and when it came to stock the Merc engineers damn near had it right. The early 1500XS would not run worth a crap on the heavy bass hull as they didnt have enough low end grunt to get em out of the hole. They just plowed along like prop was to large and your partner would have to go to nose of boat to get it to plane, once it broke over it would s##t and get it. If you want a bada** inline find you a T2x to play with as they are about 180 hp!!!!

Well...im gonna do it (try it..LOL)...to add the power ports! Faztbullet, im in the same "mode" that you was in years ago...i know the power ported blocks put out more power...I have carefully studied the intake/exhaust port locations between the 1150 block and my 1400 power ported block...the 1150 intake ports just needs opened up on the top end of the cylinder and the exhaust ports need a lot off the bottom, some on the top, and a little all the way around...I have a block to toy with...soon as i find the right tool to make the fly cut in the cylinder wall...i will repost with results!

Carry it to a machine shop as you cant do it by hand and they all need to be in the exact same place. If your going to try to get more HP, time is better spent working on reed blocks, intake and carbs as this is the biggest hold back on these engines as you cant get enough CFM thru the front into crankcase. You have small reed area feeding 1 cylinder and 2nd area feeding other cyl. The reason the T2x was baaad is it has reeds like a V-6 and 1 carb per cylinder.

I will post you some pictures of where to cut and thin blocks, cut intake and match carb. Where to grind and straight areas on block.
