Re: Converting wood Stove to vent/ventfree gas stove?

jg,
As a builder of masonry chimneys and fireplaces for many years, I say NO WAY should any fuel (solid or gas) burning appliance, be ventless.

There's always gonna be some undesireable byproduct of combustion that needs to be routed OUTSIDE.
Here in Washington, we have to provide combustion air to any fireplace or wood stove we install. The appliance can NOT utilize interior air to function.

I hear what your saying Our house was built in 2001 and in 2002 we had a Wood stove installed. The Installer had to put an outside vent in because of the Tightness of the house construction. They said they were required to be vented by law if installed in any house built after_____? All they did was cut a hole in the wall under our living room window near the stove and put a dryer vent in. It has a cover inside and out just like any other dryer vent.

If your going to use the burner portion and remove the logs....then yes it is doable. The valve and oxygen sensor would have to be remotely located outside of stove. I would not try ventless because by enclosing the burner you are affecting the air/fuel ratio which could be dangerous.

A seven plus year old thread, I'll bet the OP has it sorted out by now.;);)

Gentlemen I will close the door on this thread. No need in quoting or addressing a person who has not been here in 6 1/2 years.....
