In my neck of the woods pork is cheapest.
Yes , here too its cheap compared to beef or lamb . There has been a bit of controversy as to the origin of pork in NZ supermarkets . Stuff must have the country of origin on the label, so what we have now is pork labeled as "NZ grown " ( maybe mentions either free range or grass fed bla bla bla )and the imported stuff ( usually from Aus ) is labeled as being from either....and there is a list of 5-6 countries , so ya dont know where it comes from but wherever its from ......imported fresh pork (and beef ) .....they couldnt afford to waste any time, having said that I have bought Aussie pork and while its never as good as my own home grown pork there was nothing wrong with it .🙂

Here in our area, the yellow perch is popular and plentiful in Lake Erie if you can get out to catch them. My family loves them, I have a boat and enjoy catching them and I clean my own so they are bone free. Some of the local retailers sell these fillets for over 20 bucks per lb ! I tell my wife I need to fish as much as I can because at that retail price, I can actually make money going perch fishing !! Lol......

We had plenty of yellow perch in OR when I was growing up. I singlehandedly fed my family at least once a week with fish I caught over the years. Tied with bluegill as my fav fish, easier to filet than bluegill.

We have freshwater Perch here , like a few other breeds it was considered a shi tfish but now apparently they tastes better enough for peeps to be running round telling everyone they are good eating ( they always were just that all the snobby dumbarses with their noses in the air ( fly fishermen😆 ) would spend a week cleaning their gear if one got to close ).

I have never had fresh water fish. Turtle and gator is it for fresh water. Love the gator but not crazy about turtle. Kinda of taste like the crap from the bottom to me. As they say you are what you eat. Maybe someday I’ll have to give it try.
I did fish fresh water once in the Myakka river in Fl but not joy. I was bouncing a worm off the head of a bass and it could care less. If had a gun on me I would shot it.

Yeah gotta admit probly 95% of the fish I eat is salty.
Gators , and snakes are on my wanna eat list but we dont have them here .
Yeah , a big #uck off Python , I mean they are made for steakin up😁, bout an inch thick and on the grill🥩.
When we catch eels I usually leave them in a drum of fresh flowing water ( garden hose ) for a few days to #hit out all the mud before we smoke them . Probly work for turtles too , mmmm ,do you have to crack em open like an egg?

In my area, Turtle is a delicacy if prepared right. The trick us to make a flushing tub....leave them in there for a few weeks to a month with running water to flush the mud and scrap out of them. Without a good flush they do taste like crap!! After a good flush, even the meat gets much lighter in color. A friend feeds them and keeps them in a flush tank for 4-6 weeks before butchering and they are excellent.

Same here, used to have an excellent bluegill lake, private but knew a landowner so I fished it often. There were many days that we threw back anything under 9" as being to small !! Unfortunately my friend passed away about 12 years back and the property was sold, so now all perch and a few walleye from the big lake. I stuff my freezer full during summer to last me thru winter ! When Grandpa has a fish fry, the whole family shows up, even those that don't care for fish, come to eat my Perch !!

Yum that looks so good! Pickles and some mustard yummy!
Thats not a (Kiwi) sandwich , to much filling (bread to filling ratio out of whack 😁) thats what we call a doorstep.
My fave is inch thick home baked bread (breadmaker ) and cold roast pork shoulder (cooked on BBQ ),lettuce ,tomato ,red onion (raw)and mayo. The vegies go between the pork and the mayo , the mayo must not touch the pork (yeah , bit OCD 😆 ) and if it does one must immediately flush mouth with beer 🍺.

I've been on a pickled red onion kick lately if I'm being honest. Love em raw too.
I can remember being flat broke about age 18 ,power cut off ,late on rent and all I had to eat was a 2 gallon jar of my Mothers home pickled onions . They were ok for a couple of days but
½ way thru the 2nd week the neighbours cat was looking pretty tasty .

When I'm Don with a jar of jalapeños or anything spicy pickled I cut up an onion and put in the back of the fridge for a couple months.

My new invention...... Eggs Benedictine.

For my catholic friends I hope you appreciate the humour that I had a glass of wine with it.
