Maybe that's why there's not a single mention of fishing anywhere in the ad and the words "sport", "ski", and "speed" each appear 4 or 5 times. Not everybody uses a boat for fishing. Looks like a very practical boat to me for what it was designed to do.

Funny you post this, that boat would have been called a Playmate 120. It was the 16' version. My father has the 18' version called the Playmate 150. That boat was designed for a 120 max hp motor. A 175 and it must fly. Our 18 with a 150 would do over 60 in it's day. That windshield doesn't appear original, but otherwise the boat looks really nice.

BTW they were NOT fishing boats, so yes, the layout would not be good for fishing. Ours had a removable ski pylon and thats what they were designed for.

bet it gets more MPG's at peak cruise than most other boats on the water!

Strange thing about boats, the faster they look, the more efficient they are. Problem is that if you have a boat that can go 70 mph, pretty good odds you probably drive that fast occasionally! That boat has a fairly good MPG rating, and a horrendous GPH value, all at the same time.

But i agree with the poster above... Not a fishing boat. Not designed to be one, not intended to be used for fishing, it just happens to share colors with modern bass boats so it might be mistaken for a fishing boat.

It's funny how people always think that if a boat will go fast that it burns lots of gas.

Sure if your going fast all the time they will burn there share, but the thing to remember is the way they go fast is by efficiency.

At cruising speeds they use far less fuel then family style boats.

(and if it floats you can fish off it)

That's a darn pretty boat, to be 30 years old!...sounds like the owner has really taken care of it...it's probably his favorite toy! I had a similar boat, 16'Checkmate with a 115 Yamaha, good for 60MPH, fun, not much practical use...

My boat has built in rod holders, mounted rod holders and even an older fish measuring scale. Hasen't been fished yet. Might toss some lines out on a trip or two but thats about it.

BTW our Hydrasports was used for skiing, tubing, cruising, etc... It would do 60+ mph, jump out of the hole on plane in seconds, and would tow multiple skiiers with ease. No poles or fish blood ever got in it, and it was enjoyed for a very long time.
