While trying to see why my cooler box would not open I found out it was rotten. Tore all the vinyl off of the out side and found the whole box was rotten. The wood used was not covered with any protection. So when water got between the vinyl and the wood it just rotted. I dragged my son away from the PS3 to help that was a great time of teaching and bonding. We made a new one and have given it several coat of valspar. I hope it last for the rest of the life of the boat. The more I work on boat the more I am amazed at the lack of thought that went into long term life of the materials used in construction of boats.

Re: Cooler Box

unfortunately........lack of longevity in todays builds is common......especially in the mid 80's thru 2000's.

that was the era of faster cheaper. easier for large corporations to show the share holders a profit than worry about long term.
some survived......some didnt...

but im glad that you got your son away from games to have some bonding time......
now he will have a real different pleasure in the boat and family outings.

post pics of the finished work.
lets see it !
