Cooler live well

Just acquired a Coleman Xtreme 6270 70 qt cooler for free and am looking at making a portable live well set up.

I've seen things like the catch saver and others. Anyone have any experience with using a system like this? Or making one?

The cooler holds about 17.5 gallons, thinking 15 gallons would be about the very most in the cooler.

Looking for something all in one that can easily move from boat to boat.

Check out catfish1.com. Search their library. Lots of info on live wells and bait tanks.

Oh man. Destroying that nice cooler would be like covering your tinnie in glass fibers. :face palm: :D

Re: Cooler live well

Not trying to destroy the cooler, the catch saver is an aerator, pump and spray bar, that attaches on the inside with suction cups.

No mods to the cooler required. Scrub it out and use it as a cooler.

Here's a few ideas:
how to make a cooler livewell - YouTube

It's actually going to be more like 10 gal. of water in the cooler to prevent water from sloshing out and to give the water from the spray bar a decent distance to drop for aeration.

Thanks Jig, I have looked at a few of those.

Still looking to see if anyone has made or used one. Or will I be the 1st here at iboats?

Re: Cooler live well

I used one of that type of pump some years ago, and the bait would get up under the pump and plug up the screen on the intake or their scales would. I am sure the much newer ones have addressed this. I made a live well on my new boat and used a aerator kit and it works great, but it has to have holes cut into the tank.
As you see it also has plumbing for a fill pump and a tank over flow and a drain. Even a cycling timer.

Re: Cooler live well

Pump lake water into the cooler from a livewell or bilge pump that hangs over the side of the boat. Quick connect fittings can be used for the pump inlet and you need an overflow so also use a quick connect for that to dump excess water over the side. A timer switch will allow the pump to run for constantly or cycle for one minute and off for three -- then repeating. Adjustable timer switches are also available. Store the pump and hoses inside the cooler when not in use.

Yes that is truly vulgar and treasonous,

he just doesn't want me to tear up an old free cooler:faint2:
