Cooler spot for sub?

Hey all -- I have a 2004 rinker 250 fiesta vee -- the spot built for the cooler I don't use -- thinking about using it to put a 12in sub --- any negatives to this? thoughts?

Pics... Pick a sub that is good at free air environments, and make sure to reinforce where it mounts. I like to cut a wood ring that I fiberglass in place as a backer plate.

I dont think I have a pic of the spot -- I have no clue why I didnt take one today -- ill find one real quick... and yeah - someone was saying to cut a piece of fiberglass for it..

I just put a crappy old 10 i had laying around in a nice ported box. Hammers and sounds great

Make sure that there will be no potential rattles from hardware or such in that spot. Sub will make them rattle very loud.

So from that pic, I"m guessing you are planning on building a box that fits into that open area below the sink? Hard to tell dimensions, but a box for a 12 SHOULD fit in that area. I don't know if I'd mount a 12 to that plastic/fiberglass though, that is a fairly big/unsupported area and most likely fairly thin material. (stand along box is a much better plan)

Yeah I plan on creating a box to fit in there. I have a polk mm1240 12in sub. Just need to figure out the box...

I did this on my boat where the ice maker used to be. I used waterproof MDF for the non-ported box, and the got a sheet of white plastic to cover the box when I put it back into the hole. I had a leg up though as I used the bezel for the ice maker to hold in the sub box.

The waterproof mdf is very very soft so be careful when working with it. I'm happy with the end result, the box sounds good despite the relatively small size.

You might run into issues with added vibration loosening things. Also, keep in mind that the loud music might not be enjoyed by fellow boaters.

Your boat is probably best not on a lake or in a main cove then - don't respond if its not productive toward the goal of the thread. No one needs to know your an *******. My boats not here for you.

I recently designed a boat that competed in a car audio competition, and finished quite well! My personal boat has 2-12 subs and 8 6.5 polk main speakers, with a couple healthy amps feeding it all. Not everybody likes dead silence. Some guys like running straight headers and thru-hull exhaust. Some like a quiet engine but a nice sounding stereo. As long as it isn't cranked up in non-daytime hours in an area close to housing, I don't see an issue.

(the only time mine gets turned up is when I'm parked on the party sandbar, with dozens of other boats, many of which are louder. People who expect silence on that sandbar probably are best served by finding a different one away from the crowds)

Aha--I get it--a subwoofer speaker!

But why would you have one on a boat, when there are no stop lights on a lake to pull up next to guys like to annoy?

We don't have boats rigged like that around here. Perhaps the corrosive qualities of salt air has its advantages....

Could be, but a major annoyance on lakes is the guy with the big speakers that everyone can hear. Sounds travels a great distance on water.

Out of curiosity what ever happened with all the water you said was coming in the boat that you wanted to return. You never returned to the thread with an update.

Thanks for your concern about the music however my group of all ages enjoy the music as well as just about every group tied up is listening to something. People that want peace and quiet know to goto one of the other 30 coves on the lake. The cove I goto is known as the "party cove" and its what I enjoy...

As for the water in the boat -- dealer took full responsibility - the marina service department pulled the boat and had it back in the water next day at 1pm... Course now my ac isn't blowing cold....
