Hello,
I have a 1985 125hp force. The impeller, housing, wear plate, gaskets, o-rings and shift rod seal packing have all been changed. Pumps water great, engine never gave me any cooling issues as long as it is pumping water. Well this morning, we were trolling for about 15 minutes and the over heat alarm went off. I felt the engine & it felt normal to the touch. I shut it down anyways and let it sit a a couple minutes. I started it back up, pumps water great still, I was in lake Michigan so I rushed in not being easy on the motor and it ran fine the whole way in, even idled down trail creek (about 1 mile) with no over heat alarm issues. I got it back home in the drive way and filled up a tub of water and placed the lower unit in the tub, started the engine and let it idle for at least 15 minutes. Still pumping water fine, never got too hot, felt a little cooler than when the alarm went off but not much. I don't think the motor was too hot. What should I do? Replace the thermostat and the thermoswitch? I know I can test them but I'm sure they are original and probably ready to change anyways.
Thanks,
