Cooling issue

I have a 84 mercruiser 3.8v6. Just replaced the impeller but I'm not getting any water out of the outdrive. I started pulling hoses and I've found that I'm getting great water to the thermostat housing but it does not flow any water at all to the water pump(on the engine). I pulled the whole t stat housing and its clean inside. Only question I have though, the thermostat looks like someone has "hogged" it out. Would this not let water get to the engine pump? Thanks

Re: Cooling issue

What do you mean "hogged" it out? Dose it just build pressure like its clogged somewhere? Are you testing it with the engine running, or just trying to force water through the system?

Re: Cooling issue

There is no element in the thermostat it's self. It's wide open. It's not building pressure. I'm testing it running.
