I have a 1984 Johnson 35 HP
I can run a high speeds and no problem
If I go to trolling speeds the constant alarm goes off
I replaced the thermostat but to no avail
It will run on the water hose with no alarm
It does not seem to be overheating...but I am no expert
If I take off the alarm will not stop, but if I let it set for a while
I can take off with no alarm as long as I am planed out.
the water stream is working at all times.....
is this a water pump problem or temp sensor?
There is water getting into my lower unit..I replace the oil frequently
help!!

Re: Cooling or Alarm problem?

When is the last time the impeller was replaced?

I just pulled the lower unit, the water pump impeller looks good from the top side
the bottom side is a little worn and tore..enough to hinder but not stop....

it looks like the unit never had a plate or gasket on it..the pump housing was just
sitting on the lower unit....
I have ordered a new water pump, broke one of my inlet screens...no longer make them
so I ordered some I hope I can make them work...

I will install the new water pump when it arrives...but by the looks of things I cant
see where it was bad enough to make that much of a difference....

I guess I could replace the temp sensor? I am just dumbfounded on this one....

I've got a feeling you might be surprised. Make that water pump right before assuming you've got a problem with the temperature switch, it actually sounds like it's working just as it should.
