Cooling pickup tube- Lower gearcase

I recently changed the lower gearcase impeller- second time doing the job- I did the first one years ago...the key "Chunk" is lined up with the impeller slot- and the impeller turns when manually moving the shaft (verified by just peeking under the imperller housing while roataing the shaft) The impeller vanes are pointed correctly (counterclockwise with the impeller installed and looking down at it). I noticed the pickup tube came out with the lower gearcase when I lowered it. I reinstalled the lower gearcase by installing the tube into the upper housing first and then coupling the lower unit to it as I raised the lower gearcase into place. I still do not have water flow from the impeller- the shaft seal is installed correctly and all the gaskets are too. I also verified the hose from the engine is clear by running a garden hose to it...I am thinking I must've overlooked something. The boat has set up for about 2 years and I did not get any cooling water from the impeller when I cranked it up...when I disassembled the impeller, the old impeller and housing were in pretty good shape. No marring or burnt rubber and the tips were almost 90% intact. My rabbit ears are giving the foot good water pressure....HELP! Any ideas?
