I bought a 7.5 mercury that had been in storage for 3 years. when I ran the motor there was no water coming out of the pee hole. does the motor need flushing or is it a more serious problem. p.s I ran the motor for 3-5 minutes before catching it. could it have messed the motor up.

Well if it's been in storage for 3 years and I just bought it I'd be doing a full service on it.It could be anything from a pluged indicator hole to the impeller being burned out.How hot did it get?smell of burning paint? could you touch the p/h ?or did your fingers stick to it?Did it stop running because of the heat ? It might be fine. Pull the gearcase and check the w/p.One more thing if you don't have a manual get one, you can order on-line from I-BOATS or get one locally.

You need to replace the impeller in the waterpump every two years, no matter if it has been used or just sitting in storage..

Running for a few minutes with no cooling, it's hard to say if ya messed it up, but it's probably ok...

Re: cooling problem 7.5 mercury

Hey Skint, what ever came of this? I am having the same issues with my 7.5 merc. I had problems with the gears, which I fixed, but now I can't get water through the motor and it got hot!

The impeller was replaced on mine, and is still in good shape, but nothing is coming through. Any ideas?

Treever
