Cooling trouble

Have a Alpha 1 second gen with a mercruiser 5.7. Apparantly the outdrive is not sucking water up to the motor to cool it. What should I be looking for?

the impeller located in the lower unit of the stern drive would generally be the first suspicion.
a kinked waterhose could do it too. you should be able to see it from the outside w/o doing anything other than looking. might have to get on your hands and knees though, do you have a seloc manual (for your knees).....

What do I look for? I have knee pads, I'll use the manual as a pillow as I lie under.

that's funny....

this is a kinked water hose on a 1 drive. i think the genII will look similar. this is port side between the gimble housing and gimble ring, exhaust bellows behind the kinked water hose that needs (has been) to be replaced..

the impeller, you have to separate the upper from the lower to go look at... since your gonna be using you seloc for a pillow, i assume you've got the real oem service manual... it explains how to R&R an impeller in it..

Did it ever cool properly?
What have the engine temps been?
When was it serviced last?
Have you ever overheated?
Bad/ destroyed water pump /impeller, corroded pick up tube, kinked/ collapsed water inlet hose,clogged p/s cooler, clogged thermostat housing,
clogged manifolds/risers
