I have a Yamaha 90TLR which I recently had a problem with no water being expelled through the pee hole. After taking the boat out of the water, I ran a hose through the enginge and did get water to come out normally. This now made me concerned that no water was being drawn up by the impeller. I removed the cooling water inlet screen to check for debris, thinking I would find grass, moss, or some natural form of obstruction and instead I found several pieces of black plastic. I initially thought they may have broken off from the screens, but I dont think they did. Is there a component, seal, part and anything in the lower unit area which may have done this?

Have you changed the water pump impeller and base plate recently?

The parts you found are probably from a disintegrated water pump housing and/or impeller which would account for why the tell tale stream was not present. Forceing water through the engine from a garden hose means nothing other than the passages are clear. It is the water pump that must force water through the system and if that is bad it simply can't pump water.
