So Richard, how far back does the game date??.................Is it a relatively modern game..................say less than 200 years old, as is American Baseball............which evolved into its current iteration in the early to mid 1800's......................or does it date back farther.....................Was it played in Camalot??;):D:D

No one has ever been able to put an exact date on when cricket was first played in England, there are some very tenuous references to a similar game around the time of the Norman conquest in 1066.

The earliest definate reference is in 1597, when a witness in a court case over a disputed plot of land testified that he and his friends had played cricket on the land 50yrs earlier (1550 ish).

The first series between England and Australia was played in 1877 and is regarded as the first "Test" match, this series became known as the "Ashes" series in 1882 and has been played every 2 years since that time. Remember the thread in 2005, may it rest in peace. (thanks TD & Don)

A trivia question for you,

Which two countries played the first international cricket match???

Dang that goes back a ways..... As for the trivia question....................The USA and Canada??:)................................................................... Dating that far back it would seem to preclude travailing just to play the sport. Also both named countries hold ties to the Mother Country................................................................that and I have a very limited knowledge of your part of the world back then ...............................................Course the more I think about it two countries from Europe or the British Ilse's makes more scene..............is it to late to change my answer??:redface:

You can change you answer if you like, but your first answer is right.

The game was played in 1844 at Elysian Fields, Hoboken, New Jersey
