I need to rebuild my carb, and wanted to replace the very old (1959) cork float with a plastic one. I just found some new in the box old stock cork floats at a good price locally, and wanted to get your opinions.

Would you still use a cork float if it were new condition? My concern is the effect of the new gas additives/ethonol on the sealant.

Re: Cork Floats

The issue is the alcohol in the fuel, which disolves the shellac sealant on the cork.

OK, thanks. That was my fear, as well.

I will order the correct plastic ones.

Thank you,
